The lessons used in this Cyberguide will be for an 8th grade classroom. The lessons will incorporate literacy and language arts (including writing). Students will have been introduced to the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and will have some background into what the Deep South was like in the 1930s for African-Americans.

1) W.8.7 Conduct short research projects to answer a question (teacher and self-directed) using multiple sources.
2) W 8.3.b Use narrative techniques (dialogue, pacing, descriptions, reflections)
3) RL 8.2 Determine a theme of a text with supporting details.
4) RL 8.1 Cite textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis both explicitly as well as an analysis that is inferred.

Implementation Overview
This unit is organized to be done during the reading of the story and after the story as well. The work will be done individually. 2 - 4 class periods will be given during the book, but time will need to spent outside of class as well.
