Student Activity #1 
We walk with the Logans past the white school to their school. Plessy v. Ferguson was the court case that allowed the "separate but equal" think to happen in the South.

As you read the below links, please answer these questions:

1) What happened in the Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case?
2) What was the "separate but equal" policy established? 
3) How did the affect the Logans?

 In the novel we meet the Logans, an African-American family that owns land, while many in the black community were sharecroppers.

We hear about "Jim Crow" and the laws that make life difficult for the Logans. What are they?

Look at the images about Jim Crow. In a Google Doc, describe what you see and how it's different than what you might see today.
How would this affect you if you were an African-American during this time, and saw these images in a publication?
